The Way  2015
This sculpture is about finding hope through darkness.  When I made this piece, a friend’s mother was struggling with cancer.  I have experienced this suffering before within my own family, and it was a way for me to process my empathy in solidarity with them.  Art making has and continues to be a way for me to deal with uncertainty and difficult emotions.  As I make, hold, process, and let them lead, the work beckons. It's meant as an offering; a honor of our journey(s) through transformation.

  1. "The Way" has so many meanings, including one of the monikers for another journey: The Camino de Santiago, the pilgrimage across Spain I did in 2017. (Also the title of a film based on it.) This piece captures so much of journey.
